After FX

From wikinotes

Masking (Track Mattes)

* Place your 'Mask' layer above your 'All' layer
* Make sure the 'Modes' column is visible in After FX on the layer
** RClick the layer > Columns > Modes
* Under TrkMat, which appears next to the modes column, choose the layer you want as a mask.

Blue Screening (keylight)

On the right hand side of the screen there is a tab labelled 'Effects & Presets'. Start typing 'Keylight'. Drag Keylight on top of the layer you wish to bluescreen.

Export PSD

Sometimes it's useful when working with Maya Renders to create an afterFX file from your Maya renders. Re-rendering auto-updates the files, and then you can export your final image to photoshop for painting/tweaking.

There are however, some restrictions that are important to be aware of:

  • Track Mattes will not be transferred
  • Adjustment Layers will not be transferred

It can still be useful for layer order, transparency, and layer mode (multiply, soft light, etc.). This may seem small, but it's a lot better than having to do it manually in photoshop every time.
